IMPORTANT: Update 1.17 split into parts
The Minecraft 1.17 "Caves & Cliffs" update became the biggest update in the game's history, but due to difficulties with the pandemic, developers have to work remotely, which causes various complications.
The emerging difficulties have negatively affected developers, and they cannot make a quality update without additional work.
Because of this, it was officially announced today that "Caves & Cliffs" will be split into two parts:
- The first part of the update will be released this summer
- The second part of the update will be released before the New Year holidays
The first part of the update will focus on cute and funny mobs, new items, and new blocks.
What will be in the second part is not reported, but it seems that it will include updated generation, new biomes, and everything else that should be.
In the coming weeks, developers will share more details about the first part of the update. Whether the first part will be numbered 1.17 and the second 1.18 is still unknown.
For Minecraft: Java Edition, snapshot 21w15a has already been released, in which:
- World height has returned to the value from Minecraft 1.16
- Noise caves and aquifers are disabled
- Old caves and plains have returned
- Caves have been disabled
- Ore generation has been reverted to Minecraft 1.16 levels
- Copper now generates from the bottom of the world up to height 192
- Copper is most commonly found at level 96
- Tuff now generates as "blobs" and appears at heights from 0 to 16
- Worlds created in snapshots 21w05b and earlier can now be opened again
- Worlds created in snapshots from 21w06a to 21w14a can no longer be opened
You can still try out the new cave generation in Minecraft: Java Edition, but you need to install a special data pack.
