Spring Minecraft Live 2025 Recap

Just when you thought you were up to date with everything in the world of Minecraft — Minecraft Live returns with another packed show! The year is just getting started, and the developers already have lots of exciting news for fans!

New Game Drops

The Tinies — miniature versions of Mojang Studios developers — returned to explain how game updates will be released moving forward.

• Mojang is now releasing new features more frequently, in smaller content batches called Game Drops.
• There will now be 2 Minecraft Live shows each year.

Spring to Life — Spring Drop

Feature testing for the Spring update began earlier this year, and the developers have finally announced its completion!

• The Spring drop has an official name — Spring to Life.
• The update will release on March 25, 2025.
• Warm and cold variants of classic mobs.
• New decorative plants in Overworld biomes.
• New atmospheric effects:
  • Glowing firefly bushes
  • Falling leaves
  • Whispers of sand

Exclusive Movie Content

The Minecraft movie began production back in 2014 (over 10 years ago?!) and fans can finally celebrate — filming is done and promotion has begun. The U.S. premiere is scheduled for April 4, 2025.

To celebrate the movie, a free event will take place in Bedrock Edition:

• Event period: March 25 – April 7.
• Objective: Play mini-games and defend Midport village from a piglin invasion.
• Players will earn an exclusive cape that will be available in both Bedrock and Java Edition.

Vibrant Visuals — Graphics Update

The Vibrant Visuals update is designed to enhance Minecraft's graphics while staying true to its iconic style. It will be available first on Bedrock Edition, and later on Java Edition.

Main highlights include:

• Sunbeams through trees and water
• Reflections on pumpkins and the ocean surface
• Pixelated shadows
• New water and improved atmospheric visuals

Summer Drop

The developers have started revealing details about the next Game Drop. Testing will begin soon, and release is planned for summer.

In the Nether, players will find a new block — the Dried Ghast — hidden under fossil remains in Soul Sand Valleys.

• It can be brought to the Overworld and rehydrated with water to create a cute Ghastling.
• Over time, it evolves into a Happy Ghast.

What the Happy Ghast can do:

• It can be saddled and flown with friends (up to 4 players!).
  • Use a Harness to ride.
  • Harness is crafted with 3 leather, 2 glass blocks, and any wool.
  • The wool color changes the harness color.
• You can build tall structures directly from its back.
• Opens up new mechanics and survival strategies.

Player Locator Bar

The new Player Locator Bar helps players find each other in-game. It’s currently being tested in Bedrock Edition, and coming soon to Java snapshots! Key features:

• Helps locate other players in your Minecraft world.
• Appears where the XP bar is located.
• Works even through walls.
• Each player has a unique icon color.
• Displays up/down arrows if a player is above or below you.
