Minecraft 1.10.0.7 [Release]
The developers have released the Minecraft 1.10.0.7 update. The headliners are the long-awaited Shields, the Texture Update, Crossbows, Lanterns, and the Loom. On top of that, you can try out a range of experimental features from the upcoming Village & Pillage update (1.11), the ability to create new entities using Add-Ons, several gameplay tweaks, and hundreds of bug fixes.
New Features
Here's what was added:

- A long-requested community feature is finally in the game.
- Shields can block enemy attacks, and they activate when you sneak while one is equipped in either hand.

- Even more texture updates and tweaks are coming in the upcoming 1.11 update.
- Crossbow:
- A new weapon with unique enchantments: Multishot, Piercing, and Quick Charge.

- Loom:
- A much easier way to create banners: the Loom uses just one dye to apply a pattern, and Banner Patterns to apply special ones.
- Banner Patterns are crafted from Paper and various items.
- The help button links to the relevant "How to Play" section.
- Jellie:
- The winner of the community cat contest.
- A new cat variant that can be found in villages.
