Minecraft 1.10.0.7 [Release]

The developers have released the Minecraft 1.10.0.7 update. The headliners are the long-awaited Shields, the Texture Update, Crossbows, Lanterns, and the Loom. On top of that, you can try out a range of experimental features from the upcoming Village & Pillage update (1.11), the ability to create new entities using Add-Ons, several gameplay tweaks, and hundreds of bug fixes.

New Features

Here's what was added:

  • Shields:
    • A long-requested community feature is finally in the game.
    • Shields can block enemy attacks, and they activate when you sneak while one is equipped in either hand.
  • Texture Update:
    • Many items, blocks, and more have fresh new textures.
    • Even more texture updates and tweaks are coming in the upcoming 1.11 update.
  • Crossbow:
    • A new weapon with unique enchantments: Multishot, Piercing, and Quick Charge.
  • New Wood and Stripped Wood blocks:
    • Known to many players as Bark blocks. Existing wood blocks have been renamed to Logs and Stripped Logs.
  • Lantern:
    • A new light source that can be placed above or below blocks.
  • Lectern:
    • Place a Book and Quill or a Written Book on it, and multiple players can read it together.
    • A Book and Quill on a lectern can be read but not edited.
    • Redstone functionality will be added later.
  • Loom:
    • A much easier way to create banners: the Loom uses just one dye to apply a pattern, and Banner Patterns to apply special ones.
    • Banner Patterns are crafted from Paper and various items.
    • The help button links to the relevant "How to Play" section.
  • Jellie:
    • The winner of the community cat contest.
    • A new cat variant that can be found in villages.
  • Pillager:
    • A new illager mob that attacks players and villagers from range.
    • In the 1.10 update, they're only available in Creative mode.
    • Full behavior and spawning in Survival mode will be added in 1.11.
  • New achievement "Fruit on the Loom":
    • Make a banner using an Enchanted Apple Stencil (20G).

Experimental Features

Work-in-progress features available only when "Experimental Gameplay" is enabled in world settings:

  • New Villages:
    • Many new building types and improved village generation.
    • Villagers have new clothing that reflects their level, profession, and biome.
    • Villagers can now take on a new profession near a job site block.
    • Villagers now have a daily schedule.
    • Villagers now gather together around bells in the village.
    • Villagers now sleep in beds.
    • Improved villager pathfinding.
    • Added Mason and Nitwit villagers.
    • During the day when it rains, villagers look for a door, and at night they head to their bed.
    • Villagers now have a visual trading system: they hold up an item they want to trade if the player is holding something they want.
    • Zombie Villagers now have biome- and profession-specific skin layers.
    • Bells may appear in villages, with more functionality coming in a future update.
  • Village job site blocks:
    • The basic blocks have been added in "Experimental Gameplay"; for now they work as decoration, with full functionality coming later.
    • Cartography Table, Fletching Table, Grindstone, Barrel, Smithing Table, Smoker, Blast Furnace, Composter, Stonecutter.
  • Wandering Trader:
    • A villager mob that periodically appears at a village's gathering site and stays for 2–3 game days.
    • Offers items from a wide variety of biomes, random dyes, and other rare materials.
    • Travels accompanied by two fancy llamas.
  • Sweet Berries:
    • A new food source.
    • Sweet Berry Bushes can be found in Taiga biomes. Watch out for the thorns!
  • Pillager Outpost:
    • Generates in the same biomes as villages, and Pillagers respawn around the tower.
    • Clear it out and grab some loot.
  • Illager Beast:
    • A powerful new hostile mob.
    • Animations and full behavior will be added in 1.11, when it will also be renamed to the Ravager.
  • Campfire:
    • A new light source that makes villages extra cozy.
    • Works great as a home fireplace and doesn't spread fire.
    • Cooking and smoke particles will be added later.
  • Bamboo Jungle:
    • Bamboo now generates in Jungles, and most densely in the new Bamboo Jungle biome.
  • Minecraft Script Engine:
    • Uses the jаvascript language.
    • Scripts can be written and bundled with Behavior Packs to listen and respond to game events, read and modify data in entities' components, and affect various parts of the game.
    • Reference guides and sample packs are available on the Minecraft Wiki.
    • Currently available only on Windows 10 PCs with "Experimental Gameplay" enabled.

6 changes made. Here's the rundown:

  • A wet sponge placed in the Nether dries out instantly.

  • Improved Operator status and permission settings, with a new option to enable or disable cheats.
