Map: Langton's Ant

Langton's ant is an amazing two-dimensional cellular automaton that works according to very simple rules.

• When an ant encounters a black square, it turns 90° to the left, changes the color of the square to white, and steps forward to the next square.
• On the white square, on the contrary, it turns 90° to the right, colors the square black and also moves forward.

Although the rules seem simple, they lead to quite complex behavior. After some time of random movement, the ant starts to build a clear path, and this happens after 7500 steps. Thus, surprising and unexpected results emerge from simplicity!
