Minecraft Beta & Preview 1.26.0.23

The developers have released the test update Minecraft 26.0.23. This is the first version to use the new numbering system. Various bugs have been fixed, and both mobs and graphics have been improved.

Version Numbering System

Key changes for this transition year:

• Versions are now numbered by year.
• All 2026 versions begin with “26”.

Changes

• Added a setting that enables gameplay subtitles.
• Added support for command macros.
• Added a toggle in the Creator Settings screen that, when enabled, adds 10 new keybinds to the keyboard/mouse controls menu. Each keybind includes a text field where a command can be entered and executed when pressed.
• Updated sound effects for the Nautilus, Baby Nautilus, and Zombie Nautilus.
• Baby Drowned can now spawn with Tridents.
• You can now rename a template-based world without unlocking its settings.
• Ambient mob effects in the Mob Effects screen now have a blue outline.
• Diamond and Netherite Horse Armor now provide 2 and 3 Toughness.
• Diamond and Netherite Nautilus Armor now provide 2 and 3 Toughness.

Fixed Bugs

• The End Gateway no longer teleports players into the void.
• The “Adventuring Time” achievement no longer unlocks after visiting fewer than 17 biomes on PC.
• Reopening the game window on Windows now restores it to the correct size.
• Screenshots taken in RTX mode now render accurately.
• Block highlights work correctly when “Outline Selection” is turned off in Vibrant Visuals.
• Graphics mode options no longer reset after game updates.
• The “Hide Sky Flashes” option no longer causes the End entry sound to loop.
• Note particles now display correct colors in darkness.
• End Portal lighting now behaves correctly when using resource packs.
• Pressing the Alt key no longer freezes the game display.
• Text input works again when hovering over a text box.
• Spears now rotate properly in both first- and third-person views.
• Items added to a Bundle inside a Chest now save correctly after leaving the game.
• The Escape key now opens the game menu while on the death screen.
• Drowned, Skeletons, Strays, Bogged, and Parched can no longer pick up Spears.
