Minecraft 0.8.0 Alpha Build 1 — a test release featuring new blocks and items, visual and gameplay changes, as well as bug fixes and technical improvements.

Changes

• Planks, Slabs, and Stairs
  • New variants: Spruce, Birch, and Jungle.
  • Craftable only from their respective wood types.
  • Jungle variants are currently unavailable in Survival.
• Block of Coal
  • Crafted from 9 Coal.
  • Works as fuel, smelting up to 80 items.
• Carpets
  • Thin decorative blocks (not available in Survival yet).
• Walls
  • New blocks for fences.
  • Variants: Cobblestone and Mossy Cobblestone.
  • Craft Cobblestone Walls from 6 Cobblestone.
• Hay Bales
  • Store Wheat, flammable.
  • Crafted from 9 Wheat.
• Iron Bars
  • Similar to Glass Panes, crafted from 6 Iron Ingots.
• Pumpkins
  • Grow from stems.
  • Can be crafted into Jack o’Lanterns, Pie, and Seeds.
• Jack o’Lanterns
  • Light-emitting blocks.
  • Craft: Pumpkin + Torch.
• Rails and Powered Rails
  • Decorative blocks (Minecarts not yet available).
• Crops: Carrots, Potatoes, and Pumpkin Stems.
• Jungle Tree and Leaves
  • Decorative blocks (not available in Survival).
• Ferns and Dead Bushes
  • Decorative plants.

  • No functionality yet.
• Redstone
  • Drops from Ore when mined with Iron or Diamond Pickaxe.
  • Used to craft Clock and Compass.

  • Carrot (+3 hunger).

• Animal Breeding
  • Cows and Sheep follow Wheat.
  • Chickens follow Seeds; Pigs follow Carrots and Potatoes.
  • Feeding shows hearts, allowing baby animals to spawn.
• Commands (Experimental)
  • /timeset, /timeadd, /timelock, /timestop.
  • /give — gives items.
  • /player — enables abilities (fly, instabuild, nodamage).
  • /health, /getpos, /gethealth, /tp.
  • /clearInventory — clears the inventory.
• Options: new render distances — far (8 chunks) and farthest (12.5 chunks).
• Many blocks now have random texture rotation for a natural look.
• Wood now faces the player when placed.
• TNT ignites from Fire and Lava.
• Saplings can be used as fuel.
• Updated textures: Grass, Leaves, Wool, Furnace, Sandstone, Ice, and more.
• New textures and animations for the Bow.
• Clock and Compass now function and have new recipes.
• Zombies can drop Carrots and Potatoes.
• Mob AI improved: swimming, faster movement, animals follow food.
• Interface: updated inventory, transparent hotbar.
• Graphics: 3D clouds, new lighting effects, and item rendering.
