Minecraft 1.21.80.03

The developers have released the full version of Minecraft 1.21.80.03 for Android. This update introduces the Happy Ghast and Harness, Player Locator, Flat World presets, and much more.

Player Locator

A new UI element that shows the direction of other players.

• Enabled through Experimental Settings.
• Replaces the experience bar, but the player level is still displayed.
• Displays player indicators within a 120° field of view.
• Shows up/down arrows when there's a large vertical difference.
• Sneaking, invisibility potion, carved pumpkin, or mob head hides the player from the locator.
• In Spectator mode, players are only visible to other spectators.
• Will be toggleable once it leaves Experimental.
• Now accurately shows players regardless of simulation distance.
• Spectators can see each other on the locator.
• Known issue:
  • With simulation distance over 4 chunks, players between chunk 4 and the max distance may not appear.

Summer Drop 2025

• Enabled in Experimental World Settings.
• Features are in testing — full release expected this summer!

Dried Ghast

A new block. Details:

• Found in Nether Fossil structures.
• Crafted from 1 Bone Block and 8 Ghast Tears.
• When waterlogged, it progresses through 3 stages in ~20 minutes and spawns a Ghastling.
• Emits sounds and particles based on its state.
• Reverts to its dry state when mined or removed from water.
• State timer resets when removed from water.

Ghastling

Baby version of the Happy Ghast.

• Spawns from Dried Ghast block after ~20 minutes in water.
• Follows players or passive mobs within 16 blocks.
• Idles within 32 blocks if no targets nearby.
• Can be lured and fed with Snowballs.
• Becomes a Happy Ghast after 20 minutes or sooner if fed.
• Can be summoned with: /summon happy_ghast ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ minecraft:spawn_baby

Happy Ghast

Friendly version of the Ghast. Details:

• Flying mount for up to 4 players.
• Spawns from a Ghastling.
• Can be equipped with a Harness for riding.
• Controlled by the first player who mounts it (pilot).
• Goggles lower when mounted, indicating control.
• Does not panic from damage, cannot breed.
• Regenerates faster in rain, snow, or at cloud height.
• Descends slowly if players dismount midair.
• Wanders within 64 blocks (or 32 with harness).
• Known issue:
  • Current health is 40, but should be 20.

Harness

New item used to ride the Happy Ghast. Details:

• Crafted from 3 Leather, 2 Glass, and 1 Wool (color based on wool).
• Can be dyed.
• Equippable only on Happy Ghast.
• Allows up to 4 players to ride.
• Removed with Shears if no one is mounted.

Vibrant Visuals

Experimental graphics mode in Minecraft that enhances lighting, atmosphere, and detail on supported devices.

• Available by enabling "Vibrant Visuals" in world settings.
• Selectable via video settings menu.
• Presets: "Favor Graphics" and "Favor Performance".
• Manual customization options available.
• Supported devices:
  • Android: Adreno 640, Mali-G68, Mali-G77, Xclipse 530 and above
  • iOS: A12 or M1 and above
  • PC: Minecraft running with DX12
  • Consoles: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5
• Split-screen not supported.
• Worlds and texture packs not yet compatible, but Marketplace skins and items are.
• Known issues:
  • Visual glitches on Android (especially Mali GPUs)
  • Darkness below 8 blocks underwater
  • Light leakage or shadow flickering at cave entrances
  • Pink textures after minimizing or changing settings
  • Visual bugs with metallic and emissive surfaces

Flat Worlds

In the "Advanced" tab, when enabling "Flat World", you can choose a preset template:

Realms

Realm owners can now choose their server region. Details:

• An "Advanced" tab has been added to Realm settings with the option to select a datacenter region.

• You can select a specific region or let the system choose automatically.

• Note: this is a preference only. Your Realm may be hosted in a different region depending on server load. In that case, the next closest region will be used.

• Upon joining, a message now shows which region your Realm is hosted in for the current session.

Vanilla Parity

• Magic crit particles have been added for enchanted weapons.

• The following blocks now have the same random offset as in Java Edition:
  • Flowers
  • Bamboo
  • Hanging Roots
  • Mangrove Propagules
  • Nether Sprouts
  • Pointed Dripstone
  • Tall Grass
  • Dry Grass
  • Coral Fans
  • Coral Plants
  • Double-tall plants (e.g. Sunflowers)
• Farm animal spawn eggs in Mangrove Swamps now spawn the same Chicken, Cow, and Pig variants as in Java Edition.
• Totem of Undying now gives 45 seconds of Regeneration.
• Trail Ruins now generate in the same locations in Mutated Birch Forests on Java and Bedrock with the same seed.
• Cut Sandstone Slabs and Cut Red Sandstone Slabs can now be crafted in the Stonecutter.
• Shears now lose durability when used on Beehives with full Honey level.
• Shields now take durability damage from explosions.

Changes

• Added "Filter Profanity" toggle on PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox platforms.
• Added the locatorBar game rule to enable or disable the Locator Bar UI.
• Ambient sounds can now play for Sand, Dead Bush, and Terracotta blocks.
• Removed access to Virtual and Mixed Reality gameplay.
• Mangrove Roots can now be used as Furnace fuel.
• Parrots can now mimic Phantoms, Zoglins, Guardians, Ravagers, Pillagers, and Blazes.
• Wither Skeletons and Zombified Piglins can now walk in lava.
• Looting now increases Raw Rabbit drops by 1 per level.
• Iron Axe with Efficiency I now always spawns in a Woodland Mansion tree-chopping room chest.

Technical Changes

• Added "music_definition" field to the "minecraft:biome_music" component in client_biome.json to control music playback in biomes.
  • If omitted, music defaults to the dimension. An empty string disables music in that biome.

Bug Fixes

Over 50 issues were fixed — here are the most important ones:

• Repeatedly clicking while uploading a world to an inactive Realm slot no longer causes a crash.
• Text to Speech now works again on Android Fire Tablet devices.
• Audio no longer stops working on Windows at 40–41% loading.
• Music and sounds now stop correctly after pressing "Save & Quit".
• Wolf spawning now uses proper sound variants.
• Fixed credits music not playing when entering from Settings during pause.
• Saplings no longer reset the "age_bit" after failed growth, preventing false Observer triggers.
• Fixed ambient occlusion issues on non 1×1×1 blocks.
• Empty open Bundle icon now renders correctly with touch controls.
• Fixed incorrect player model size when using custom skins.
• Players no longer clip through blocks near X or Z coordinates that are powers of 2 (e.g. 256, 512, 1024).
• Fixed client-server desync when using portals in Realms.
• Player no longer sinks under or beside the bed when sleeping.
• Deepslate Redstone Ore lights up again when interacted with.
• Deepslate Redstone Ore no longer stays lit indefinitely.
• Players now have proper collision when respawning while gliding or swimming.
• Players can no longer sprint faster in water than swimming.
• Fireworks used with Elytra now only boost flight, even when placed on a block.
• Fixed rubberbanding when using fireworks with Elytra inside blocks like sugar cane.
• Items can now be used while targeting a Mob Spawner.
• Items no longer disappear from chests updated simultaneously by a Hopper.
• Named Slimes and Magma Cubes no longer lose names when splitting.
• Creakings no longer despawn when reloading a world.
• Mobs no longer struggle to deliver repeated hits when very close to stationary players.
• Camels no longer spawn in spaces too small for them.
• Farmer Villagers no longer get stuck while harvesting crops.
• Evoker legs now animate properly while walking.
• Players can no longer craft unknown recipes when "doLimitedCrafting" is enabled.
